June is finally here! Berlin is one beer away from passing out in Victoria Park and getting horribly sunburned. Just in time, here’s your monthly excuse to duck into the cool shadow of our bar: a fresh line-up.
It started with the Absinthe Sour. I felt like something complex but refreshing with an attitude problem (?). One part Victorian apothecary, one part Aperol Spritz in a mason jar made by someone who’s “actually a DJ”. Bairnfather brings the deep herbal cut, softened by Select – my favourite bittersweet Venetian hug. Now make it SOUR. One sip and you’re in a Toulouse-Lautrec fever dream… on a Neukölln rooftop, for some reason.
Next came the what IF? Mango Unchained: green curry–infused Tito’s vodka with coconut rum and mango lemonade (was I hungry? Yes, I was). I threw in a little Creole bitters and a drop of lime to sharpen things up – now there’s a riot in Phuket.
Then a hint of smoke in the summer air touched something deeply nostalgic. A childhood memory? Summer break? A campfire? Or a Witch Hunt: Mandragora, d’Espelette, blanco tequila and mezcal conjured a vivid memory: slow burning, herbal warmth that lingers in the strands of your hair. A bonfire? No, too dark, more like a midsummer evening dream. Add some citrus cordial and grapefruit bitters a day to keep the madness away. If the body’s a temple, yours is officially haunted, honey.
Peel Good followed with a comforting and playful charm. Tastes like bedtime for the adult I refuse to be. Banana peel–infused Plantation rum is the base, Averna and milky oolong add smooth layers. Maple syrup and Angostura bring out the detail and set the texture. Honestly? I craved banana bread, but baking at 3am is where I draw the line.
Looking for something with teeth? Blood n Turkey WILL bite back. Rare Breed bourbon, Cherry Heering, lapsang tea–infused gin, Carpano Classico and orange juice collide into a Blood and Sand that’s been up all night. Smoky, juicy and quite messy. Feels like a drink you’d spill mid-story you shouldn’t be telling
